I was busy writing last night, so I haven't made much progress towards Sag A* - especially since I've decided to make the trip as a companion piece to my new Elite: Dangerous short story ("The Loneliness of the Long Distance Explorer"), so I'm going about the trip the hard way - economical jumps, and travelling down the spiral arms towards the core, rather than taking the quick, direct route.

Hopefully this approach will pay off when I come to sell my exploration data - with luck I might be able to jump all the way from Ranger to Explorer Elite.

I'm still only about 1500ly out from Conway City, so I haven't had too many first discoveries yet, but tonight I did stumble across my first "Costner", and thought it was worth a screenshot. Fingers crossed the first of many in the weeks and months to come.

  1. I did a Kylie in economical mode once. Never again!

  2. I did it once before in a 34ly Asp with the fuel scoop turned off to see how far one tank would get me. A kylie was no problem, and if anything the Annie seems to be more efficient. Your thrusters use more in supercruise than you do per jump. You just need to let the fuel scoop sniff the top of the stellar corona and the tank is topped off.

I honestly don't know how long I'll be able to last doing economical jumps, but I do want to get a fair few first discoveries along the way, and I think that'll be more likely if I take the slow road.
